Here is a short 10 ‘must do’ list to get you started TODAY:
- Drink lots of water. Minimum 2 liters a day. 1 glass of water 30 min before your every meal and 30 min after every meal.
- Choose stairs vs. elevators.
- Move every hour. Don’t sit for longer than 1 hour. Do yourself a short break. Sitting is new smoking.
- Walk at least 5km a day. Park your car far away from the office, choose public transport, find the route with most walking, ride a bicycle.
- Have at least 15 min walking after your heaviest meal.
- Become an early bird. Best time to get up is 5 am - you will have more productive time for work and/or exercises. Go to bed by midnight and have 6–7 hours of sleep (10:00 PM if you want to wake up at 5 am).
- The longevity formula - raise your Heart Rate (HR) at least 3 times a day up to 70% of your HRmax, where 220 – age = HRmax.
- Jumping Jacks your age. You can do it before/at/after your work.
- Breathe 5 times just before Eating
- Upgrade your nutrition (For more details check my answer on Quora on healthy food habits)
- Cut sugar.
- Take fruits (dry or fresh) between meals.
- NO Soft Drinks: High Fructose Corn Syrup Kills!
- Choose Tea over coffee
- Choose red wine vs. beer or strong alcohol.
- Consume shellfish & eggs (increase good cholesterol - HDL)
- Oily Fish, Hemp/Flax seed oils
- Black Chocolate (>70% of cocoa)
- Only eat when you are hungry.
- Drink you food and chew your liquid (slow down!)
- Prefer soups & salads for late dinners.
- Limit red meat consumption to 1 per week.
